Inside Sales & Call Center Employees
Employees who work in call centers are often denied overtime pay, including those who conduct inside call center sales work. Some employers misclassify these sales people as being exempt from overtime and only pay them a set salary + commissions or pure commissions. Persons performing sales/marketing work over the phone are typically required to be paid overtime. Other employers may pay these call center employees by the hour with overtime pay, but fail to include their commissions or bonuses when calculating overtime pay. Or, the employer may have these call center employees perform pre-shift and post-shift tasks such as booting up computer and software and reviewing emails and other paperwork prior to clocking in. All of these minutes each day add up quickly and can lead to hundreds if not thousands of dollars of unpaid overtime.
